Energy Efficiency Retrofit

Course Type: Online
Length of Course: 1 Day

What is it?

‘Retrofit First’ campaign is waging ahead and is becoming a considerable part of the construction industry, but its very different to new construction. This course may help you be part of that and ties into the UK Government's ambitious target of net zero carbon by 2050.

Overview

Considering the amount of carbon produced by the use of buildings and the meagre one or two percent of new construction contributing to the totality of UK building stock each year, it is how we deal with existing buildings that’s going to be the main contributor to carbon reduction in the built environment. Also, in consideration of the carbon produced in the construction of new buildings, there is a clear move towards retaining existing buildings and retrofitting them for improved energy performance.
Get to understand existing buildings and how to make them energy efficient through this one day course. It provides an introduction to energy performance, working out the means to make improvements, planning and managing retrofit projects along with quality management issues. It will take account of recent developments and research as well as the development of standards, guidance and publicly available specifications (PAS).

This includes BSI publications such as PAS 2030: Specification for the Installation of Energy Efficiency Measures in Existing Dwellings and Insulation in Residential Park Homes, PAS 2035: Retrofitting Dwellings for Improved Energy Efficiency Specification for Domestic Building Retrofits and PAS 2038: Retrofitting Non-Domestic Buildings for Improved Energy Efficiency, as well as revised National Occupational Standards for Construction Site Management Retrofit.

In addition, appropriate reference will also be made to regulatory reform focused on high rise buildings concerning their retrofit. The impact that retrofit will mean to carbon reduction and climate change will also be focused on, along with the opportunities within the retrofit market covering both housing and other building types.
